Rising farm input costs and the cost of animal replacements leave little margin for error in today's farming industry and enterprises achieving maximal productive, reproductive and management efficiency will realise healthy profits. It is not only the visible costs or losses that need accounting for but those achievable production targets or goals which are being missed – for example favourable and consistent milk butterfats in a dairy enterprise supplying a cheese contract. Achieving these can bring considerable financial gain but requires optimal nutritional status, best possible cow health and above all, regular and consistent monitoring and fine-tuning.......

HANDLE ON GRASS INTAKE
As summer rolls on it's important to keep a handle on how much feed cows are getting from the grass, says SCA NuTec nutritionist Norman Downey. It's a knock-on effect – grass intakes and quality will determine the amount and type of supplementation required to ensure that cows meet their production targets.
